Happy Birthday - Columbus MS Photographer

Happy Birthday to my amazing husband, Daniel. He turns 32 today! Weve been married for 10 years already, which is way longer than I expect anyone to put up with my craziness.... I guess it helps that I married the most amazing man in the whole wide world.

I could gush and gush about him, but I dont think I could really put it into words how wonderful he is.... seriously... if youve seen any Tyler Perry movie (think Madea), then you know there is always one guy in the movie who is gorgeous and is the sweetest thing ever - I mean, he's so good that you think that a guy like that cant really exist and then you get all weepy and eat ice cream b/c you wish that guy did exist.....

Except he does... and he's all mine... and I aint sharing!

Ha!

But for real, Daniel is amazing and beautiful and has shown me a whole other side of love that I didnt know existed... and he puts up with all the crazy (b/c yes, there is alot of crazy at our house and alot of starts with me).... I love him, I love him, I love him...

*and for Daniel: let go, baby hippo..... ha ha ha ha.... I love you!

One Year - Columbus MS Photographer

This past weekend Wallace has been ours "officially" for a year! In our hearts, he has been ours for so much longer... but a year ago, we went to the courthouse and a judge granted us to become his family! I look at this pic and can see how much all of us have grown in just a year... cant wait to see what the next few hold!

Personal Friday - Columbus MS Photographer

So I thought Id take a minute and introduce you to another member of the family that doesnt make it on the blog too often (if ever, Im not sure). This is Dash, our cat... he is about 9 years old and he has turned into a cranky old man.... he is the neediest cat Ive ever met and loves to meow incessently and needs attention constantly. Ha ha - everyone who comes in our house and sees him says "oh my goodness, that is a big cat" - I never think of him as as big cat (honestly, you should see my mom's cat, thats a big cat!), but he does resemble a big, fat marshmallow. Sometimes, he gets on my ever-living, last nerve, but I still love him and our living room would be super lonely without him... :)

Hope yall have a great weekend!

New Recipe - Columbus Ms Photographer

(making banana pudding with dad (Wallace wasnt home yet), June 2010)

I know this is a photography blog, and not a cooking blog, so it goes to say that I probably should not be posting a recipe here. But! This is also my own personal blog and I would be doing you, my lovely reader, a disservice if I didnt post this recipe for you.

Now see, I love to cook and I therefore watch a good bit of Food Network (its also one of the only stations that is always clean so our kids can watch it)... and one of my most favorite shows (of any channel) is Food Network Star... so Ive been watching it for weeks now... and just a few weeks ago, one of the contestants made this recipe and it looked amazing, so I knew I had to try it.

Oh my goodness yall! Oh my goodness. wow! You have got to try this. Let me preface the recipe with this - I still have my go-to classic mac and cheese recipe that is my grandmother's, but for a different taste, this was amazing - it does make a whole panful which would make this the perfect potluck dish, but I think next time that I make it just for my family I will probably just half it (especially to keep me from eating leftovers of it every night!)....

Ok, lets get to it.... you can find the original recipe here, but I just figured it was easier to copy and paste it in so you could do the same

Ingredients
Two 8-ounce cans creamed corn
1 cup milk
1/4 teaspoon onion powder, optional
1 heaping tablespoon cornstarch
Pinch ground nutmeg (I used cinnamon instead)
Salt and ground black pepper
3 dashes hot sauce, optional, plus more for serving (I used garlic powder instead)
2 cups elbow macaroni
8 ounces grated mild yellow Cheddar (I used sharp cheddar instead)
12 ounces grated mozzarella (I used sharp cheddar instead)
1 egg, lightly beaten
1 cup croutons
1 tablespoon olive oil

Directions
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Move one rack to the top of the oven.

In a saucepan, simmer the corn with the milk and onion powder, if using, for 5 minutes.

Combine the cornstarch with about 2 tablespoons water and stir well. Add the cornstarch to the corn mixture and whisk over medium heat for 3 minutes.

Season the corn cream with a little nutmeg, salt, pepper and hot sauce if using. Remove from the heat, cover and keep warm.

Boil the elbow macaroni in full rolling salted water for 4 to 6 minutes. Drain the macaroni well and add to the corn cream.

Add the Cheddar, half of the mozzarella and the egg. Stir well. Pour into a 4-cup casserole dish or 12-inch cast-iron skillet and top with the remaining mozzarella.

In a zip-top plastic bag, lightly crush the croutons using a small mallet or rolling pin. Stir together the oil and crushed croutons and spread over the top of the macaroni and corn mixture.

Cook on the top rack until golden, 15 to 20 minutes. Serve with hot sauce.

*a few things that I did differently
- We dont really like hot sauce at our house, so I substituted some garlic powder for that one to still give it some flavor (no measurements, just sprinkled some in)
- I dont like nutmeg at all, so I used a dash or cinnamon instead - key is to just use a dash as cinnamon can overwhelm things quickly, but it paired up with the creamed corn in the recipe like a dream
- I used only sharp cheddar instead of the mild cheddar or mozzerella - this was way tastier

I will absolutely be making this again... and again.... and again.... and you should to!

Seven Deadly Sins: Greed - Columbus Ms Photographer

(click on pic to view larger)

So Greed was the next shoot that we did in the series... and turns out this is one of the biggest favorites for everyone. Carl did an amazing job and we had so much fun - even if I dragged him around town and cemetery in the rain... :) Everyone wants to know how I got a huge safe out to photograph, so here is my secret: I didnt. I just noticed an interesting building one day and stopped to walk around and look at it, and lo and behold, there was this huge safe laying outside - just days before the greed shoot, and then I thanked God for blessing us with it.

This one looks amazing on canvas - the colors are so rich and just pop... and still available for only $100.

We went and saw Batman last night... we dont get out to movies too often, but this is the one that we had been waiting all summer for.... and it was good! Even Anne Hathaway, whom I didnt have much faith in before the movie - ha... :)

Anyway... so glad its Tuesday - I hope you are enjoying it!

Seven Deadly Sins: Envy - Columbus Ms Photographer

Alright, here we go - the second in the series... and I love it. I so love these girls - this shoot was probably one of the most fun b/c these girls are hilarious - and it was like 100 degrees outside so it was super hot, but they kept going. I think they had quite a good time getting to beat up on each other... :)

Hope you are enjoying the series... :)

In other news, is there anyone out there who is looking for a super easy job - would be perfect for a homeschooled senior or a person in college. The hours are from 6:45 - 7:40 AM and 2:00 - 3:30 in the afternoon. We pretty much just need someone to get the kids to school and get them after school. Would be a great way to make some easy spending cash and its pretty much you watching tv (or you could study if you need to)... let me know if you are interested - email me at talleyimages@yahoo.com

Personal Friday - Columbus MS Photographer

Just thought Id put up a few of the fireworks from July 4th this year... we are so lucky that we live really close to a place that puts on a great firework show, so all we have to do is sit in the driveway and watch... no money and no clean-up - sounds good to me!

Happy Friday everyone... and happy weekend!

Red velvet graham crackers…. I actually made these – they did not look like the pics, but they were super yummy… my tip would be to skip the rolling out as it can be super messy, and just scoop out spoonfuls onto a cookie sheet and press flat… I also made a white chocolate cheesecake filling and then put it in between 2 of the crackers and it was heavenly… definitely super easy and super yummy!

Winner, Winner, Chicken Dinner - Columbus MS Photographer

(photograph done by Celeste Staggers)

Meet Jennifer... she was the winner of the Dismals Bridal shoot. She was nominated by her friend Brandy, and here is part of what Brandy said...

My friends name is Jennifer hebert she is... a awesome mother to 2 boys her and her husband Jamie have been married going on 11 yrs which is awesome in this day and time. Let me tell you a little about Jenni she has been my best friend for 20 yrs and would do anything for you that is what kind of person she is. when she got married 11 yrs ago they had to use just a family friend to go around and take pics with a regular digital camera because that's all they could afford at the time. I think she deserves this because she has been planning their vow renewal for a yr and wants to have that "dream wedding" that all little girls dream of. Did I also mention that she [recently] lost 50lbs and now she looks awesome I think she needs this so she will have the new woman in a new dress in new pictures... What it boils down to is Jenni is a wonderful person inside and out and I couldnt think of anything more than for her to win this photo shoot from you to make her a very happy girl.

Thank you to Brandy for entering and for Jennifer for being so awesome! Im so, so excited to do this shoot and I know you, my readers, are excited to see the results as well... :)

Why dont you leave a comment sending Jennifer some happy wishes...

Also, I hope this will serve as a reminder... get a professional photographer for your wedding - it will be so worth it, i promise!

Tomorrow!!!!! - Columbus MS Photographer

(another hint at the sin pics)

Tomorrow is the day!!!! Im so excited! Tomorrow is the art show for the Seven Deadly Sins - Ive been working on these since April!!! Thats 3 months of working on one project and tomorrow it will all be revealed. I couldnt love these prints any more than I already do.... this has been one of my most favorite projects - b/c I did them my way, without having to take any advice or instructions from anyone else, so they could be as weird or crazy as I wanted. And I love them.

And get this... each one is printed on a gorgeous 16x24 canvas. They look amazing.

The show is tomorrow from 5:30 - 7:30 at the Renee Reedy studio in downtown Columbus - its across from the Rosenweig and under Cafe on Main. Its come and go and free food and drinks are provided so definitely a win-win.

Please come and stop by and say hey to me... you have no idea how much it would mean on this particular show.... :)

Also, each canvas will be available for purchase for only $150 (canvases this size are normally around $300), or you can buy the whole set for $700.... or next week, I will be offering them for only $100 each or buy the whole set for $500. The catch is that if you wait, the one you wanted may be gone. I only plan to ever print one - and these are available at the show. Tomorrow!

So excited... I cant wait to meet everyone and see what you think.... :)

Email me at talleyimages@yahoo.com if you have any questions.

Free Bridals - Columbus MS Photographer

Ok, so up for grabs today is a free bridal shoot at the Dismals. Have you ever been to the Dismals? Its in northern Alabama about 2 hours from Columbus. It is amazing. You walk down the steps into the canyon and its lush and green with waterfalls, moss and creeks running through the whole thing. It looks like you stepped back into time or crossed over into some fairy world. Talk about amazing.... you can view some pictures here.

So here is the deal... Id love to bless a bride with some bridals that maybe she cant afford or couldnt afford. Maybe you eloped and never had the time or money to do real pictures... or maybe your pictures turned out horribly? Everyone deserves to feel beautiful and have some beautiful pictures of themselves to celebrate. Or maybe there is a woman (mom, sister, wife) that needs a pick me up - to feel beautiful for the day.

Even better... I have wedding dresses on hand, in most sizes... so even if you werent able to get a dress or dont want to get yours dirty, you can just borrow one of mine and just have fun.... and trust me, I do have some gorgeous dresses - in all sizes and shapes (including some gorgeous vintage dresses!).... that dress in the picture at the top is one I own as well (yes, Im serious!).

The only catch is that you need to be healthy enough to do alot of walking/hiking, but otherwise this contest is open to anyone and everyone... :)

So how does it work? Send me an email at talleyimages@yahoo.com nominating a woman in your life who could use some beautiful pictures of herself (and yes, feel free to nominate yourself as well!)... Contest will be open for a little over 2 weeks and Ill pick a winner on July 9th.... in the email, please include the woman's name, why she deserves this, a picture, and if possible a dress size (so I can make sure I have something), please put "Dismal Bridals" in the subject line so I dont miss any.

Also, please share this on facebook, blogs and through email... I definitely want everyone to hear about this one!

Super easy contest with some great odds... and an amazing prize! I cant wait to hear from you!

Bleeding Heart - Columbus MS Photographer

If you know me at all, then you know Im a huge bleeding heart. I may try to look tough on the outside, but on the inside Im all blubber.... if a child or animal is hurting, then Im most likely to be the first one to be doing something.

And all in all, life is just weird sometimes.

So yesterday, we went to the Y and let the kids play around for a little bit and left a little bit later than normal, and on our way home, we got to the light at Main Street.... and there waddling around - in the road! - were three baby ducklings!

Ack - I couldnt let them get run over... so I hopped out of the car to chase these ducklings around. (Im sure this is right about the time my husband started his normal eye rolling to the situation).

My chasing them led them straight into the busy road... so I go across too - only to have them run into the bushes.... only to have them run out of the bushes and back into the busy road.... where a truck went by them super fast and knocked them over - I was afraid they were smooshed, but they popped right up and continued their trek across the road... so I followed, trying not to get run over myself.

So now weve made a complete circle and are back where I first saw them.... and then they run under a car (thankfully stopped at the light). By this time, they were getting a bit tired, so I caught two of them and the driver of the stopped car caught the other one and handed it over (thank you!)

So now that I had all 3 ducklings... and these things were tiny-tiny... maybe a day old... they for sure would have been run over if they had stayed in the street.... but now what to do with them? We went to any houses that were close by, but no one knew anything about them.... and there arent any ponds close by at all (seriously, 3 baby ducklings in downtown Columbus?)

So we took them home and put them in a box.... dude, these things were jumping for all their life to get out of the box - I was worried they were going to have a heart attack or something, but thankfully, they were ok - apparently baby ducks just have a lot of energy. We made some phone calls and now they have a great home at the Back 40 Petting Farm in Caledonia.

The kids were sad that we couldnt keep the ducks, but we told them that maybe we would go visit sometime.

Life is just so crazy sometimes.... but I wouldnt have it any other way.
